What this amendment would do
This amendment, submitted by Ms. Baldwin, is about giving choices to the folks handling the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Program. We need to keep our elected officials accountable and make sure common-sense rules are clear so local areas can actually get internet funding without jumping through hoops they didn't agree to.
Here is what the amendment aims to change or add to the bill:
-
Gives an eligible entity the power to choose how they spend their grant funds.
-
Allows them to follow either the original funding notice from May 12, 2022, or that same notice as modified by the June 6 policy notice from 2025.
-
Ensures that if an entity chooses to use the original May 12, 2022 notice, they do not have to comply with the June 6 policy notice to get their final proposal approved by the Assistant Secretary.
