What this amendment would do

  • Sets a 30-day deadline: The amendment requires action to happen not later than 30 days after approving a final proposal.

  • Protects awarded funds: It stops the Assistant Secretary from taking back (deobligating) awarded funds unless the Inspector General of the Department of Commerce finishes an investigation into alleged misconduct and reports those findings back.

  • Provides funding for investigations: It moves $5,000,000 to the Inspector General of the Department of Commerce specifically to pay for these investigations.
