What this amendment would do
This amendment, submitted by Mr. Kelly, proposes to make a straightforward change to the bill by striking section 60021 and replacing it with new instructions regarding federal funds. Common sense tells us we need to keep a close eye on where our tax dollars are going, and this change shifts money from one specific program over to another.
Key Changes to the Bill
-
Takes Back Old Funding: The amendment takes back any leftover money that was originally set aside for low-carbon materials for federal buildings under a previous law (Public Law 117-169).
-
New Funding for Border Security and Other Projects: It takes $1,000,000,000 for fiscal year 2025 and puts it into the Federal Buildings Fund. This money will remain available until September 30, 2028.
-
Where the Money Goes: The Administrator of General Services must use this new funding for specific projects of national interest. These designated projects must support border security, the collection of tariffs, stopping fentanyl, and running federal courthouses and government operations outside of Washington, D.C.
