What this amendment would do
SA 2372 aims to stop federal funds from being used to pay unemployment compensation benefits to individuals whose wages during their base period are $1,000,000 or more. It also prohibits using federal funds for administrative costs related to those payments.
To achieve this, the amendment adds the following requirements:
-
Self-certification: Applicants must certify that their base period wages are not equal to or more than $1,000,000.
-
Verification: State agencies must use available systems to verify wage eligibility by assessing claimant income as much as possible.
-
Recovery: State agencies must require individuals who received benefits they were not entitled to to repay those amounts.
The prohibition applies to weeks of unemployment starting on or after the date the Act is enacted.
