What this amendment would do

As folks who rely on our government to be straight with us, we need to know what our elected officials are trying to do with our tax dollars and public resources. Mr. Booker submitted amendment SA 2217, which sets up a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to maintaining critical data at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Purpose and Changes

  • The main purpose is to let the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget adjust certain budget numbers and the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation that maintains key environmental data.
  • This data supports military readiness, civilian safety in the face of natural disasters, and ensuring operational advantages.
  • The changes may include requiring that websites of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration remain online and accessible.
  • Any legislation for these purposes would not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
