What this amendment would do
Mr. Markey submitted amendment numbered SA 2157. The purpose of this amendment is to establish a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to preserving progress in fighting cancer and ensuring a safe and healthy environment for all.
This amendment aims to allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise certain committee allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution. It also allows the Chairman to make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation relating to two main things:
-
Maintaining in effect regulations that have been shown, through analysis prepared by the promulgating agency at the time of promulgation, to reduce the risk or incidence of cancer related to environmental pollution.
-
Preventing the repeal or revision of such regulations in any way that would fail to preserve the reduction in cancer risk or incidence.
These revisions and adjustments can only be made if the legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
