What this amendment would do
Mr. Markey submitted amendment numbered SA 2135. Its purpose is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to protecting workers from illegal wage theft and child labor.
The amendment aims to allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution. It also allows the Chairman to make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation relating to the enforcement of labor laws.
Specifically, this enforcement may include substantially increasing the number of investigators and capacity for enforcement activity for the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor. These changes can be made provided that the legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
