What this amendment would do
As your legislative analyst, let's look at what Senator Murphy and his colleagues are trying to do here. They put forward amendment SA 2128 to the congressional budget resolution, and it is all about protecting the folks back home who work hard for a living.
What It Aims to Change
-
The amendment adds a new rule in the Senate called a point of order.
-
This rule stops the Senate from considering any bill, resolution, motion, or amendment that increases taxes on taxpayers making less than $400,000 in adjusted gross income.
-
If anyone wants to break this rule and raise taxes on the middle class, it would take a three-fifths vote of the Senators to waive the rule or to overturn a ruling by the Chair.
