What this amendment would do
Look, as folks who care about keeping our elected officials straight and making sure the government works for the people, we need to know what our lawmakers are trying to do with our money. Mr. Schiff submitted an amendment, numbered SA 2091, for the congressional budget resolution for fiscal year 2025.
What It Aims to Change or Add
This amendment creates a deficit-neutral reserve fund. Put simply, it gives the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate the power to make changes and adjustments for legislation that upholds the Constitution of the United States.
Specifically, the text mentions that this can include:
- Prohibiting federal funding from being used to advance efforts to repeal the Twenty-Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.
- Facilitating any President serving a third term.
All of this is tied to the rule that the legislation must not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
