What this amendment would do
What the Amendment Does
Mr. Schiff submitted amendment SA 2087, which creates a deficit-neutral reserve fund. This allows the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to make changes to financial allocations and adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for certain legislation.
The Purpose of the Amendment
The purpose of this amendment is to protect communities from natural disasters. Specifically, it allows for adjustments to support legislation that can do the following:
- Reinstate employees at the National Weather Service
- Prohibit reductions in staffing at the National Weather Service
- Prohibit reductions in funding at the National Weather Service
- Prohibit office closures or relocations at the National Weather Service
These changes are only allowed if the legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
