What this amendment would do
Mr. Luján has put forward an amendment, known as SA 2078, which is tied to the congressional budget for the United States Government. As folks we elected to represent us, we need to know what they are trying to do with our nation's financial roadmap.
The Purpose of the Amendment
The main goal here is to create what is called a deficit-neutral reserve fund. In plain English, this means setting aside a financial cushion specifically for the purpose of bolstering efforts to combat infectious diseases in the United States, including the measles.
What It Aims to Change or Add
This amendment allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise the allocations of a committee or committees, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution. It also lets them make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation related to fighting infectious diseases like the measles.
The big catch—and common sense rule—is that such legislation would not increase the deficit over the period of the total of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
