What this amendment would do
Mr. Cruz submitted this amendment, numbered SA 2074, to the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2025. In plain terms, it sets up a deficit-neutral reserve fund. This is essentially a dedicated space in the budget that allows the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to adjust financial levels for future legislation, as long as that legislation does not increase the federal deficit.
The Purpose of the Amendment
The stated purpose of this fund is to relate to providing quality education for the children of the United States. Specifically, it aims to allow changes for legislation that would:
- Prohibit or limit Federal funding from being used to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in prekindergarten programs, elementary schools, or secondary schools.
- Prohibit or limit Federal funding from being used to compel teachers or students to affirm diversity, equity, and inclusion teachings in those same schools.
