What this amendment would do
MR. PETERS submitted amendment SA 2069 to establish a deficit-neutral reserve fund. The purpose of this amendment is to make sure our United States automotive industry can outcompete automakers backed by the Government of the People's Republic of China.
The amendment aims to allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to make budget adjustments for legislation that supports this goal. Specifically, it can add or change funding to support incentives for vehicles made in the United States, work closely with allies and trade partners like Canada, or take action to limit the importation of vehicles from companies backed by the Government of the People's Republic of China, as long as the legislation does not increase the deficit from fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
