What this amendment would do
This text is about SA 2055, an amendment submitted by Mr. Booker to the concurrent resolution H. Con. Res. 14 for the fiscal year 2025 budget.
Purpose of the Amendment
The purpose of this amendment is to set up a deficit-neutral reserve fund related to strengthening service in the United States Armed Forces.
What it Aims to Change or Add
The amendment allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution. It also allows the Chairman to make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation related to strengthening service in the Armed Forces.
Specifically, it covers legislation that would ensure that no individual who meets established physical, mental, or moral fitness standards is denied the opportunity to serve in the Armed Forces based on:
-
Race
-
Gender
-
Gender identity
-
Sexual orientation
-
Religion
-
Other irrelevant factors
To make these changes happen, the legislation must not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
