What this amendment would do
Mr. Booker submitted amendment SA 2051 to the concurrent resolution setting the congressional budget. Common sense tells us this is about keeping our people safe right here at home and holding our government accountable to the folks who put them in office.
The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund. Here is what it aims to change or add to the bill:
-
It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise budget allocations and make adjustments for legislation relating to protecting the rights of United States citizens.
-
It specifically includes prohibiting the removal of United States citizens from the United States for the purpose of imprisoning them outside of the United States.
-
It requires that any such legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
