What this amendment would do

As your legislative analyst, I want to keep you informed on what our officials are up to with our tax dollars and the laws they propose. Mr. Booker submitted amendment SA 2049, which is intended to be proposed for the concurrent resolution H. Con. Res. 14, establishing the congressional budget for fiscal year 2025 and setting levels for 2026 through 2034.

Purpose and Changes

The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to ensuring public safety. It aims to allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to make changes to committee allocations, aggregates, and other levels in the resolution, as well as adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger.

  • This is for one or more bills, joint resolutions, amendments, amendments between the Houses, motions, or conference reports relating to ensuring public safety.
  • It may include commissioning a study on the impact on violent crime of directing Federal law enforcement agencies to pursue civil immigration enforcement of individuals who have not committed a crime instead of investigating transnational criminal organizations.
  • These adjustments can only happen by the amounts provided in such legislation, and only if the legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
