What this amendment would do
Mr. Booker submitted SA 2039 to hold the line on our budget while focusing on a very common-sense issue for everyday folks: our energy bills.
What The Amendment Aims To Do
- Creates a deficit-neutral reserve fund which allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to make adjustments and revisions to committee allocations, aggregates, and the pay-as-you-go ledger.
- Combats rising energy prices by protecting the incentives and programs authorized by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
- Targets specific savings by supporting programs projected to lower household energy costs by 1/3 by 2035, which reflects an annual savings of roughly $2,000 per household.
- Protects taxpayers by ensuring that any legislation passed for these purposes would not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
