What this amendment would do

As an analyst looking out for everyday folks, here is the plain truth about what this amendment is trying to do. Ms. Warren submitted SA 2018 to the budget resolution for fiscal years 2025 through 2034.

The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund. This allows the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to change budget allocations and make adjustments for legislation dealing with a very specific goal.

The amendment aims to add provisions relating to preventing housing cost increases. This may include preventing windfalls for hedge funds and other wealthy investors due to privatizing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The only catch is that the legislation cannot increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
