What this amendment would do

Mr. Reed submitted this amendment to the congressional budget resolution for fiscal year 2025. It deals with holding the line on our national deficit while looking out for everyday folks who might get hit in the wallet by new government policies.

What It Aims to Change or Add

This amendment adds a deficit-neutral reserve fund to the bill.

  • It gives the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget the power to change budget allocations and adjustments.
  • This power is specifically for legislation that provides families with a monthly rebate.
  • The monthly rebate is meant to cover household costs that come from new and increased tariffs put in place during calendar year 2025.
  • Any legislation doing this cannot increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
