What this amendment would do
As folks looking out for the people and holding our officials accountable, we need to know what this proposal is all about. This amendment, numbered SA 198, was proposed by Mr. King along with Mr. Schatz and Mr. Merkley for the fiscal year 2025 budget resolution.
What It Aims to Change
The amendment aims to change the bill by creating a specific deficit-neutral reserve fund for legislation. Put simply, it gives the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget the power to make adjustments for certain bills or amendments, but with two strict rules.
-
The legislation must not reduce the average tax liability of taxpayers with income over $500,000,000.
-
The legislation must not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
