What this amendment would do
Mrs. Shaheen submitted amendment numbered SA 1962, which proposes to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to stopping the sale of fentanyl and other drugs on social media platforms to the concurrent resolution H. Con. Res. 14.
The purpose of this amendment is to allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels, and make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger. This applies to legislation relating to preventing illegal online drug sales, provided that the legislation does not increase the deficit over the period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
The amendment aims to change the budget resolution to accommodate future legislation focused on encouraging social media platforms to moderate illegal drug sales happening on their platforms. This includes sales that violate terms of service, or efforts by cartels and drug dealers to sell fentanyl, methamphetamine, counterfeit pharmaceuticals, or other drugs.
