What this amendment would do
Mrs. Shaheen submitted this amendment to set up a deficit-neutral reserve fund. The plain goal here is to make sure our elected officials have the flexibility to fund measures that improve security and communications right along the northern international land border of the United States.
What It Changes or Adds
This amendment adds a section to the budget resolution that lets the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget revise allocations and adjustments.
- It focuses on improving security and communications along the northern international land border.
- It can include speeding up approvals for no-cost leases at U.S. Customs and Border Protection facilities that sit within 100 miles of that border.
- It comes with a strict rule that any legislation passed using this fund must not increase the deficit between fiscal years 2025 and 2034.
