What this amendment would do
Mrs. Shaheen proposed an amendment, numbered SA 1931, for the Congressional budget resolution for fiscal year 2025. As folks we elected to office make decisions on our money, it is our job to see how they handle it. This amendment sets up a deficit-neutral reserve fund specifically for correctional officer pay.
What It Aims to Change or Add
The amendment allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to change budget allocations and make adjustments. Here is what it aims to do:
- Keep law enforcement compensation competitive.
- Increase pay for Bureau of Prisons correctional officers.
- Increase pay for other Federal workers in localities categorized as "rest of United States".
- Ensure that any legislation doing this does not increase the deficit over the total of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
