What this amendment would do
-
This is an amendment submitted by Ms. Hassan, designated as SA 1898.
-
Its purpose is to create a point of order in the Senate against legislation that would cut benefits for seniors and individuals living with disabilities covered by Medicare.
-
It aims to add a rule stating that it shall not be in order in the Senate to consider any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, amendment between the Houses, or conference report that makes these cuts.
-
To get around this rule and waive or suspend it, the amendment requires an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Senators duly chosen and sworn.
-
It also requires that same three-fifths vote to sustain an appeal of the ruling of the Chair on a point of order raised under this rule.
