What this amendment would do
Mr. Van Hollen submitted amendment SA 1883 to the concurrent resolution for the fiscal year 2025 congressional budget. The purpose of this amendment is to hold our officials accountable by creating a specific rule in the Senate against favoring the ultra-wealthy over everyday working people when it comes to taxes.
What It Aims to Change or Add
- Point of order: It adds a rule that makes it out of order in the Senate to consider any legislation that gives a larger average tax cut in real dollars to millionaires and billionaires than it gives to middle-class families.
- Waiver and appeal: It states that this new rule can only be waived, suspended, or have its ruling sustained by an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the sworn Senators.
