What this amendment would do

MR. GALLEGO submitted amendment numbered SA 1882 to the concurrent resolution H. Con. Res. 14 for the fiscal year 2025 budget.

Purpose and Changes

  • The amendment sets up a deficit-neutral reserve fund related to protecting Americans from fentanyl.

  • It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to make adjustments and revise allocations for legislation that protects Americans from fentanyl, as long as that legislation does not increase the deficit from fiscal years 2025 through 2034.

  • The legislation for those purposes may include prohibiting the freezing or canceling of funds or contracts for programs that aim to reduce the influence of cartels, reduce illicit drug smuggling, and reduce illicit drug production.
