What this amendment would do
Mr. Hickenlooper put forward this amendment, known as SA 1878, to deal with money and rules for the federal budget. Looking out for the hard-earned tax dollars of the people, we need to keep our elected officials accountable when they handle our finances. This amendment sets up a special financial safety net called a deficit-neutral reserve fund.
What It Aims to Change
- The amendment gives the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate the power to change certain budget allocations and adjustments.
- These changes can only happen for legislation related to promoting United States competitiveness and innovation.
- This work may include supporting research and development funded by the National Institutes of Health.
- There is a strict rule attached: the legislation cannot increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
