What this amendment would do
-
Creates a reserve fund: This amendment sets up what we call a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to protecting Social Security for seniors.
-
Gives budget flexibility: It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to change budget allocations and levels for certain bills, amendments, or other measures.
-
Focuses on specific goals: The changes can be made for legislation that protects Social Security for seniors, which can include keeping Social Security Administration offices open in rural communities or making sure the agency has enough staff to deliver timely benefit payments to seniors.
-
Protects the budget: Any legislation using this fund must not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
