What this amendment would do
Mr. Hickenlooper submitted an amendment, known as SA 1873, to the concurrent resolution H. Con. Res. 14 for the fiscal year 2025 budget. As folks who elect these officials, we need to know what they are trying to do with our healthcare and money.
What does the amendment aim to change or add?
This amendment aims to add a point of order against cutting Medicaid funding. Here are the plain facts of what it adds:
- Creates a rule in the Senate saying it is not in order to consider any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, or conference report that reduces funding for Medicaid when Medicaid provides coverage for more than 6 in 10 residents in nursing home facilities.
- Sets a rule that this protection can only be waived or suspended by an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Senators duly chosen and sworn.
- Requires an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Senators duly chosen and sworn to sustain an appeal of the ruling of the Chair on a point of order raised against cutting this funding.
