What this amendment would do

Mr. Van Hollen, along with Ms. Hirono, submitted SA 1869 to the concurrent resolution on the congressional budget for fiscal year 2025. The purpose of this amendment is to set up a deficit-neutral reserve fund related to protecting student access to school lunch and breakfast programs.

What It Aims to Change or Add

  • It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution.
  • It allows the Chairman to make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation relating to protecting student access to healthy meals.
  • It aims to prevent cuts to benefits or changes to eligibility for the school lunch program and the school breakfast program that would leave more children hungry.
  • It applies to legislation provided that such legislation would not increase the deficit over the total of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
