What this amendment would do
Mr. Warner submitted this amendment, known as SA 1834, to the congressional budget resolution for fiscal year 2025 through fiscal year 2034. As folks we sent to Washington to work for us, we need to know what they are trying to do with our money and our lives.
What It Aims to Change or Add
This amendment creates a brand new point of order in the Senate.
- It aims to make it out of order in the Senate to consider certain reconciliation legislation, amendments, or conference reports that would increase monthly student loan costs for people who borrow federal student loans.
- It sets a strict rule that this new block can only be bypassed, or waived, if a three-fifths vote of the chosen and sworn Senate members agrees to do so.
- It also requires that same three-fifths vote to successfully appeal a ruling made by the Chair regarding this specific point of order.
