What this amendment would do

As folks looking out for the everyday people, we need to keep track of how our elected officials handle our safety and our tax dollars. Mr. Lujan submitted amendment SA 1720, which proposes to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to grant programs for firefighters.

What the Amendment Changes or Adds

  • It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise allocations, aggregates, and other levels in the resolution.
  • It makes adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation relating to supporting initiatives for fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations.
  • It includes assistance to help increase or maintain the number of trained, front-line firefighters available in communities, including through specific grants.
  • It ensures that any such legislation would not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
