What this amendment would do

MR. KAINE submitted SA 168, which is an amendment meant to be added to the concurrent resolution setting the budget for the government for fiscal year 2025 and levels through 2034.

The purpose of this amendment is to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to repairing federally maintained trails impacted by natural disasters during 2024.

It aims to allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to make changes to allocations, aggregates, and the pay-as-you-go ledger. These changes can be made for legislation relating to funding for the Forest Service and National Park Service to repair and maintain trails and other outdoor recreation assets on Federal land that were impacted by natural disasters during 2024.

This can only happen if the legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
