What this amendment would do

As your analyst, I am looking at how our elected officials handle the budget and health care. Mr. Kim, along with Ms. Alsobrooks and Ms. Duckworth, put forward amendment SA 1658 to the concurrent resolution for the congressional budget for fiscal year 2025.

What the amendment aims to do

  • It creates a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to expanding support under Medicare or Medicaid for opioid treatment.

  • It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to make changes and adjustments to budget allocations, aggregates, and the pay-as-you-go ledger.

  • These changes are meant for legislation that relates to health care, specifically including legislation to expand support under Medicare or Medicaid for opioid treatment.

  • The catch is that this legislation must not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
