What this amendment would do
As your legislative analyst, let's look straight at what Mr. Gallego is trying to do with this amendment. Plain and simple, it is about keeping our elected officials and the military accountable to Congress when it comes to our local communities and national defense.
Purpose and Changes
-
The amendment sets up a deficit-neutral reserve fund.
-
Its main goal is to prohibit the closure of United States military bases without notifying Congress at least 6 months in advance.
-
It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to make adjustments and revise allocations for legislation that achieves this goal, as long as it does not increase the deficit between fiscal years 2025 and 2034.
