What this amendment would do

Mr. Kaine put forward an amendment, known as SA 164, to the concurrent resolution for the federal budget for fiscal year 2025 through 2034. As folks who elect our officials, we need to know what they are trying to do with our budget. This amendment adds a new section to the bill that creates a deficit-neutral reserve fund.

What It Aims to Change or Add

  • It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to change certain budget allocations and adjustments.
  • These changes are meant for legislation that promotes opportunities for seniors and people with disabilities so they can access long-term service and support right in their homes and communities.
  • There is a strict rule attached: this new legislation must not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
