• The purpose of this amendment is to create a point of order in the Senate against any legislation that would raise grocery costs for American families.
• It aims to add a rule that blocks the consideration of any bill, resolution, motion, amendment, or conference report that increases food costs, specifically by cutting or changing eligibility requirements for the supplemental nutritional assistance program or other programs helping households afford food.
• The amendment allows this rule to be waived or suspended, and requires an appeal of the Chair's ruling to be sustained, only by an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the sworn Members of the Senate.
