What this amendment would do
Here is the straight talk on what Mr. King is trying to do with this amendment. Plain and simple, he wants to hold our elected officials accountable when it comes to protecting corporate tax revenue.
What It Changes
-
The amendment adds a new rule in the Senate that makes it out of order to consider any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, or conference report that decreases corporate tax revenue. This rule applies to the current fiscal year, the budget year, and the following 9 fiscal years.
-
It sets up a shield so that this new rule can only be waived or suspended if three-fifths of the Senators vote to do so.
-
It also requires that same three-fifths vote if someone wants to appeal a ruling made by the Chair regarding this specific point of order.
