What this amendment would do
Mr. Welch submitted SA 1496 to deal with the federal budget. The main goal here is to make sure we are holding our elected officials accountable when it comes to tackling food insecurity and helping folks who need it.
What It Changes or Adds
- It adds a new section to the end of title III of the concurrent resolution.
- It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to change certain budget allocations and adjustments.
- These changes can only happen if they relate to addressing food insecurity by making the application process easier for qualified individuals to get approved for Federal nutrition programs.
- The rule for this is strict: the legislation must not increase the deficit from fiscal year 2025 through 2034.
