What this amendment would do
As folks who want to keep an eye on how our government operates, it is important to know what our elected officials are putting on the table. This amendment, submitted by Mr. Coons, sets up a deficit-neutral reserve fund.
Purpose and Changes
The purpose of this amendment is to allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to make changes to financial levels and the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation related to federal workers. Specifically, it aims to add provisions for protecting federal workers from arbitrary and wrongful termination.
- This includes workers responsible for United States national security.
- This includes workers responsible for public health and safety.
- This includes workers responsible for scientific innovation and technological competitiveness.
The only catch is that any legislation using this fund cannot increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
