What this amendment would do

Mr. Reed submitted amendment SA 1445 to the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2025. The purpose of this amendment is to create a point of order in the Senate against certain legislation.

What it Aims to Change or Add

The amendment aims to add a point of order to the Senate rules. This addition makes it out of order to consider any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, amendment between the Houses, or conference report that would restrict future increases to nutrition assistance benefit amounts based on increased grocery costs, such as limiting future thrifty food plan updates.

To bypass this rule, the amendment requires an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Members, duly chosen and sworn, to waive or suspend the rule, or to sustain an appeal of the ruling of the Chair.
