What this amendment would do
Ms. Rosen submitted this amendment to hold our officials accountable by setting up a rule in the Senate. Common sense tells us we need to watch out for working folks, and this amendment aims to stop tax cuts for the wealthy if those same cuts end up increasing costs for everyday Americans making less than $400,000 a year.
What It Changes or Adds
The amendment adds a new section to title IV of the concurrent resolution to create a point of order in the Senate.
- It bans the Senate from considering any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, amendment between the Houses, or conference report that gives tax cuts to the wealthy while driving up costs for people making under $400,000 annually.
- It sets a strict rule that this new rule can only be waived or suspended, or an appeal of the Chair's ruling sustained, with an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Senators duly chosen and sworn.
