What this amendment would do
This is amendment SA 1406, submitted by Ms. Rosen. Looking out for the working people, this amendment is all about keeping our elected officials accountable when it comes to the cost of living.
The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund. It aims to give the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget the power to change budget allocations and make adjustments for legislation that focuses on two specific things:
-
Lowering prices
-
Protecting consumers from price gouging
To make sure our leaders are being fiscally responsible with our hard-earned tax dollars, the rules require that any legislation using this fund must not increase the federal deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
