What this amendment would do
Mr. Bennet submitted SA 1385, which is an amendment intended to be proposed for the concurrent resolution H. Con. Res. 14 for the fiscal years 2025 through 2034. As folks we voted into office make decisions with our tax dollars, it is our job to keep an eye on how they handle our funds.
What the Amendment Changes
This amendment adds a new section to the end of title III titled DEFICIT-NEUTRAL RESERVE FUND RELATING TO PROMOTING HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY.
- It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution.
- It allows adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for certain bills, joint resolutions, amendments, amendments between the Houses, motions, or conference reports.
- It specifically targets legislation relating to prohibiting the rescission, reduction, or reprogramming of funds for programs that promote healthy food choices and physical activity.
- An explicit example included in the text is the education program under the supplemental nutrition assistance program established under the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008.
- This is all allowed provided that the legislation would not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
