What this amendment would do
-
Mr. Bennet submitted amendment SA 1384 to the concurrent resolution on the congressional budget for fiscal year 2025.
-
The amendment adds a new section to the end of title III that creates a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to reducing food insecurity.
-
It aims to allow the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other levels, and make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger.
-
These revisions and adjustments are for legislation relating to prohibiting the withholding, reduction, or conditioning of Federal funding for food assistance programs—including the supplemental nutrition assistance program—in a State during any fiscal year when the food insecurity rate increases.
-
The food insecurity rate increase is determined by the Current Population Survey Food Security Supplement of the Bureau of the Census.
-
The changes apply provided that the legislation would not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
