What this amendment would do

Mr. Bennet submitted SA 1379, which is an amendment meant to be proposed for the congressional budget for fiscal year 2025 and the budgetary levels for fiscal years 2026 through 2034.

Purpose and Changes

  • The amendment adds a deficit-neutral reserve fund to the end of title III.

  • Its purpose is to support children, seniors, and families in the United States by decreasing hunger.

  • It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels, and make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger.

  • These revisions are for legislation relating to supporting children, seniors, and families by decreasing hunger, which may include prohibiting provisions that would decrease funding for nutrition programs authorized in the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act, the Child Nutrition Act of 1966, or any similar provision of law enacted after the adoption of the resolution.

  • This is allowed provided that the legislation would not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
