What this amendment would do

Mr. Bennet submitted SA 1359, which aims to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to funding for United States Southern Command to the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2025.

The purpose of this amendment is to allow the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to revise budget allocations and adjustments for legislation that strengthens the United States Southern Command. Specifically, it aims to add or change the budget to support legislation that would increase resources for Central America, South America, or the Caribbean in order to:

  • Address immigration

  • Deter adversaries

  • Preserve stability

  • Address common challenges

As your analyst, I want to keep our officials accountable by noting that this change only works if the resulting legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
