What this amendment would do

Mr. Peters submitted amendment SA 1326 to the concurrent resolution H. Con. Res. 14. The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to disclosing conflicts of interest of special Government employees.

What It Aims to Change or Add

This amendment aims to add a new section to title III of the budget resolution. Specifically, it allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to make adjustments and revise allocations for legislation related to government ethics.

To keep our officials accountable, the targeted legislation would ensure that each special Government employee of the Executive Office of the President must meet specific ethics and transparency rules:

  • Complete a public financial disclosure form.

  • Divest stock or themselves of any position in any company that does business with the Government and has interests that may be affected by their official duties.

  • Avoid having a controlling interest in an entity that receives a contract, grant, subsidy, or other business agreement with the People's Republic of China or any other covered nation.

If these requirements are not met, any companies associated with that special Government employee will be barred from contracting with the Government.
