What this amendment would do
Mr. Bennet submitted SA 1300 to the concurrent resolution on the congressional budget for fiscal year 2025. Plain and simple, this amendment wants to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund to the bill.
The purpose of this addition is to focus on advancing border technologies that improve security while also protecting vulnerable populations. To help folks understand what that means in plain English, the text notes this may include AI-powered sensors to detect smuggling and automated alerts for potential unaccompanied children in distress.
To make this happen, the amendment allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise certain allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution. They can also make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for related legislation, as long as that legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
