What this amendment would do
Mr. Bennet submitted SA 1296 to the concurrent resolution on the congressional budget for fiscal year 2025. The purpose of this amendment is to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund focused on strengthening protections and improving legal services for unaccompanied migrant children.
What It Aims to Change or Add
This amendment allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to make adjustments and revise allocations, aggregates, and the pay-as-you-go ledger. These changes can be made for legislation relating to:
- Strengthening protections and improving legal services for unaccompanied migrant children
- Ensuring access to safe housing
- Providing mental health support
- Ensuring due process during immigration proceedings
These adjustments are only allowed if the legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
